Whether you’re the type of person who faithfully makes New Year’s resolutions each year or not, the start of a new year can spur you to make some key changes in the way you approach your presentation.

You may have been doing things the same way for many years, saying, “Why fix it, if it’s not broken?”.  Tried and true has its place, but change is refreshing and can provide a much-needed boost of optimism to start the year off right.

So, without further ado, here are our tips to revitalize your beauty routine for the new year!

About that hair.

We all know someone who’s had the same hairdo since college, refusing to change it.  They have their hair routine down to an art and are reluctant to change anything about it.

But change is good and a new cut and/or color can completely shift your self-perception.  Since when has seeing a new you ever been a negative?  Consider taking the bull by the horns, by trying something contemporary and fresh.

Just say “no” to contouring.

Contouring makeup tutorials are all over the internet right now, rendering intricate solutions which are almost scientific in their formulation.  They’re time-intensive and “heavy”.

But, seriously.  That’s a lot of makeup and a lot of makeup, heavily applied, isn’t what your skin needs.  Want a more contoured look? Consider taking up a program of exercise and increased water intake.  You’ll get a similar effect which is naturally-derived.  Bonus:  you’ll be healthier and look and feel fantastic!

Inside out skincare.

Skin care isn’t just from the outside in.  You can change the quality of your skin from the inside out, too.  Once again, sufficient intake of water is crucial.  But what you eat can also affect your skin’s quality.

Foods rich in healthy fats are part of a diet that will make your skin glow.  Choose nuts with a high fat content (in sensible amounts) and avocados.  Both these are excellent skin supports, but there are so many foods out there to support healthy, radiant skin.

Supplement your diet with skin-specific vitamins like C, D, E and K and glow on with your bad self.

Ditch the foundation.

Foundation has a distinct tendency to work against your beauty.  It’s difficult to match the color of your skin, for one.  For another, many apply foundation as a sort of mask to conceal perceived flaws.

A tinted moisturizer (or “BB cream”) is an excellent alternative.  Most of these contain skin brightening ingredients which impart a fresh, vital, natural look.  So much better than wearing a mask!
