It’s tempting to think that DIY solutions are a good way to look your best, while saving money.  In fact, the beauty products market seems to be increasingly focused on treatments usually found at a medical spa like ours.

Gone are the days when treatments like home facials and mani-pedis were the pinnacle of DIY beauty.  Hair removal with shavers and depilatory creams are also old news.  Nowadays, laser hair removal kits are available, as well as facial peels.  These seem like advances in the home beauty sector, at first glance.

But we’re here to tell you and all that glitters is not gold.  Medical spa treatments vs. DIY treatments is not a contest at all.  That’s because you are not trained to use these types of therapies and because of that key factor, accidents can and do happen.

What you don’t know can hurt you.

When you contact a medical spa like Ethos Spa Skin & Laser Center about the therapies we offer, we don’t just get to work.  First, we’ll sit down with you and discuss the suitability of the therapy you’re seeking.

There are many factors to consider, depending on the nature of the treatment.  All skin types don’t respond the same way.  Some people have more sensitive skin.  That’s why we always ensure that the therapy you’re considering is suited to you before proceeding.

For laser hair removal, we always perform a “patch test”.  This involves testing the therapy on a small section of skin as a control to see how your skin responds.  Many people who opt for DIY treatments are excited by the prospect of having the technology available for their home use.  They tend to skip ahead to the money shot and that can lead to permanent damage.

Your skin can be burned, scarred and sometimes, bleeding can occur.  That’s serious stuff.  In the hands of someone who isn’t trained to use the technology appropriately, DIY treatments can be harmful.

In terms of microdermabrasion, the same precautions are taken prior to treatment.  A patch test can determine if your skin is too sensitive, or if you’re allergic to any of the products used.  There are many websites out there willing to recommend that you use this or that in your kitchen, but they’re not at home with you, ensuring that you proceed with caution.

Professionals know.

At Ethos Spa, we’re professionals who know that a conservative approach to medical spa treatments is our responsibility.  We give all our guests the same consideration and caution because we’re here to help you look incredible and feel amazing.

We’ll never recommend a treatment that’s not appropriate for you or could cause damage to your skin.

Because we’re governed by a Board of medical professionals, our guests come to us with complete confidence, knowing that our treatments and therapies are vetted by doctors.

It’s tempting to believe that DIY treatments are a great way to save money, but professional care is always advised.  Contact us to find out more.
