Botox studies are still being done today. Doctors have found many uses for Botox including eye disorders, cosmetic procedures including wrinkle freezing, overactive bladder, excessive sweating, migraines and many more. Now, Botox has been used in conjunction with fillers to help improve the appearance of dimpled chins and marionette lines around the mouth.

A cleft chin(or dimpled chin) is a dominant trait. This means that if a child has one parent with a cleft chin, then he is more likely to have a cleft chin than not. The cleft in the chin is a result of a deformity where part of the human head failed to fuse together. There are three forms of cleft chins. The bone in the lower jawbone is split, usually slightly, leaving the skin of the chin to form an indent or split; the split can be caused by slightly separated muscle tissue; or, just the surface skin is dimpled. The cleft in the chin is commonly formed when the human is in its embryo or fetus stage of life; however, it can also develop as late as human adolescence as one’s features grows and matures.

Many people do not like their dimpled chin and seek ways to improve the appearance. Options include shaving down the chin bone, injecting wrinkle filler, such as Botox and Restylane or he can reshape the chin by installing chin implant made of real bone or synthetic material. Many patients choose the less invasive, non-surgical treatment using fillers and/or Botox.

Marionette lines or downturned mouth corners can also be treated with Botox. Marionette lines are grooves or furrows that run from the corners of the mouth downwards towards the jawline. Often the corners of the mouth are turned downwards as well, leading to a sad, dissatisfied or scornful look. This can be reversed by injecting Botox into the muscle around the mouth. Treatments last on average 6 -12 months.
