What to Expect During an Acne Treatment Facial

Book now

Acne can be a lifelong battle. You have your skincare regimen.  You perhaps take acutane and mind your diet, too.  But it’s a struggle.

Regular acne treatment facials can be helpful at both controlling and reducing acne.  By clearing out clogged pores and blackheads which may have formed, these treatments can make the War on Acne much more satisfying in terms of results.

If you’re unsure what to expect during an acne treatment facial, this post’s for you.  Here, we demystify a therapy which some may find intimidating.  But there’s nothing to fear and everything to gain by adding this weapon to your anti-acne arsenal.

At the Consultation

At your consultation about an acne treatment facial, you’ll meet with a skilled professional who has your best interests at heart.

At Ethos Spa, this is what we strive for – to put you completely at ease.  We carefully review your history and ask you about any medications you’re taking, whether for acne or not.

This isn’t done to intrude on your privacy.  It’s done to ensure we’re targeting therapy to your needs in a way which won’t conflict with other health regimens.  We’ll also ask about what you do in terms of self care.

All this helps us arrive at the right treatment for you to make it as effective as possible.

7 Steps to Better Skin

A facial to treat acne is a 7-step process.  You can expect it to go like this:

Deep cleansing:  During this step, your skin (including the neck, chest and shoulders) will be thoroughly cleansed to remove all traces of dirt, oil and makeup.  Following the first stage cleansing, a second stage will be done.

Steam: Next, you’ll be treated to a step of the process most of our guests love – a steam treatment!  A machine will emit clouds of steam to soften your pores and loosen any matter which may be in them.

Exfoliation:  Depending on the medications or any topical treatments you may be using, the technician will exfoliate your skin with the appropriate product.  This removes dead skin cells and debris in the pores loosened by the stream step.

Blemish extraction:  While mildly uncomfortable, this step rids your skin of blackheads and other blemishes.  Pressure is applied by the technician or a comedo extractor (aesthetic tool) is used to remove any skin eruptions.

Mask:  The type of mask usually employed in acne treatment contains sulfur, as it’s great for treating acne.  But your technician may opt for a clay mask for further extraction, or a soothing mask if your skin’s become irritated in treatment.

Toner or astringent:  While toners contain no alcohol, astringents do, so much in this step depends on your skin and its response to the previous steps.

Sun protection and moisturizer:  Your technician will choose a moisturizer geared to the needs of acne-prone skin, then apply sun protection.  Your skin has been exfoliated and will be more sensitive to the sun, following your facial.
