What is Bellafill?

Bellafill is a dermal filler mostly used for smile lines or so-called nasolabial folds. Besides smile lines and wrinkles, it is used as a filler for acne scars. What makes Bellafill different than other fillers is that it is non-absorbable therefore there is no need for frequent re-injections. The effects last up to 5 years or longer. Before injection, every patient has to do allergy test just to make sure that they are not allergic on any of its compounds.

How long does it last?

The longevity is what is so great about Bellafill. With some patients, results start declining after 5 years while with others results last permanently. The only way to reverse the effect is surgical removal of collagen.

Who can not use Bellafill?

Bellafill can not be an option if you are allergic to any of its components, or if you have severe allergies of some other kind, hypersensitivity, and anaphylaxis. Moreover, if you experienced or have a condition that involves thick scar formation such as hypertrophic and keloid scars you may not be a good candidate. Bellafill is not an option for lip augmentation.

What are the Side Effects?

Just like with other dermal fillers, there are temporarily side effects that usually go away within one week after the injection. Those side effects include redness, swelling, bruising, itching, and tenderness. There are less common side effects that include rash and lumps around the site of injections. If those occur, have a follow up with your provider.

The more serious side effects include infections and your body not being able to absorb the microspheres. In the case of infection, patients need to return to their provider or any doctor to receive proper treatment to avoid further complications. If the microspheres are not absorbable, then they are removable with surgery.
