Effortless Fat Reduction
For Hard to Lose Inches
Finally, there’s a non-surgical, pain-free alternative to liposuction for the body-conscious who can’t seem to shed fat in certain “stubborn spots,” regardless of how rigorously they diet and exercise. FDA-approved CoolSculpting™ by Zeltiq is a clinically proven, non-invasive solution for anyone looking for an effective, surgery-free treatment option to remove fat in problem areas.
Hardik Soni, M.D. and the team of medical professionals at Ethos Spa Skin and Laser Centers now makes CoolSculpting available to assist patients in eliminating unwanted fat through a patented cooling technology that triggers a natural, controlled elimination of fat cells from treated areas. Targeted fat cells are absorbed during the CoolSculpting treatment and eliminated by the body’s natural metabolic system, reducing unsightly bulges without harming the surrounding tissue.
Dr. Soni now offers this innovative fat reduction procedure at both Ethos Spa locations in Summit and Englewood, New Jersey, using the latest CoolSculpting applicators to address all areas of concern, including:• Upper and lower abdomen
• Flanks/love handles
• Inner thighs
• Banana folds (underneath the bottom)
• Bra line fat
How long does a CoolSculpting treatment take?
It takes just one hour per treated area for a CoolSculpting by Zeltiq treatment. The best results occur in those who are at their ideal body weight but need some help with problem areas, usually in the abdomen and flanks. One treatment area is generally about the size of your hand; therefore, each "love-handle" would be considered one area, and the lower abdomen is generally considered two areas. You can treat more than one area at a single office visit, but only one area at a time. To treat two areas takes slightly more than two hours.
Is there ever a need for second treatments or more?
For many patients, a second treatment in the same area may be beneficial since CoolSculpting removes about 25 percent of the area’s fat cells per treatment. The fat cells that are damaged by the treatment are frozen and later absorbed by the body's own metabolic process, rendering them permanently gone. Results take about 3-4 months on average to be fully realized, and that would be the ideal time for patients to decide if they want a second treatment. Results may vary from patient to patient, but most achieve exactly the results they’re after.
For decades, dermatologists at Harvard Medical School studied Cryolipolysis™, the non-invasive cooling of adipose (fat) tissue to induce lipolysis (the breaking down of fat cells) to reduce body fat. They found that cold affects fat cells but not their surrounding tissue. The discovery ultimately led to the realization that freezing fat cells can help facilitate their removal without inflicting damage to surrounding tissue. In fact, it was tissue damage research and discovery that led to the development of the CoolSculpting technology.
What kind of results will I see from CoolSculpting?
Most patients can expect an average 20 percent reduction of fat in treated areas after each treatment. The same area can be re-treated in 4 weeks, to achieve an even greater degree of fat reduction. Most patients generally start to notice results as early as three weeks following treatment, with the final results being visible after about 4-6 months.
Is CoolSculpting permanent?
Yes. CoolSculpting kills fat cells by selectively freezing lipids found in fat cells. This results is the gradual death of those cells, and the fat they are carrying is absorbed and excreted. The procedure kills up to a ½ inch (at it’s thickest) of fat in targeted areas. Multiple areas can be treated, resulting in a gradual reduction of fat in larger areas . Once the fat cells are killed they’re gone forever. The only reason they could re-appear is if you gain a large amount of weight after treatment, which can trigger your body to generate new fat cells to store new fat produced by your weight gain. If you avoid weight gain, however, your CoolSculpting treatments are permanent.
What are the risks and side effects associated with CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is a very safe procedure. Since it first earned FDA approval in 2010, it had already been used safely in Europe for approximately five years. The reason it is so safe is that the cold exposure used in treatments is not so extremely cold that it kills fat cells immediately. Instead, the controlled cold exposure initiates natural programmed fat cell destruction, which is why it takes up to two months to see results. The exposed fat cells naturally degrade, and the by products are excreted by your body’s natural elimination processes. CoolSculpting is not known to cause long-term nerve damage, and there are no needles, no incisions, no scars and no downtime necessary for recovery. Side effects are very mild and transient.
Are CoolSculpting treatments painful?
CoolSculpting treatments are not painful, although they may be slightly uncomfortable during the first few minutes of treatment, patients describe it as an unusual cold suction sensation that gradually turns into a barely noticeable numbness. The sensation is greatest with the machine’s larger treatment head/applicator, and less with the small and medium applicators. Immediately after your CoolSculpting, treatment, the area may have mild to moderate tingling, numbness and soreness. Mild bruising is sometimes seen, but this is uncommon. Soreness may last for 2-3 days, and is described as similar to the muscle soreness you experience after a round of intense exercise. Tingling and numbness is similar to the sensation your skin experiences after exposure to intense cold, and lessens over time (usually within 2-3 weeks.)
With standard settings, CoolSculpting should cause little to no bruising or pain. Sometimes the suction is increased on thinner patients to get proper exposure of the fatty area to the cold applicator. A higher suction setting could increase the chance of bruising, though it is still usually minimal and limited.
How do I know if I’m a good candidate for CoolSculpting?
The best candidates for CoolSculpting treatments are people near their ideal body weight who have pockets of fat that are unresponsive to diet and exercise. It is meant for people who are seeking spot reduction in specific fatty areas, but are either not good surgical candidates or not willing to undergo a surgical procedure.
CoolSculpting offers a safe, painless and effective method to reduce fat in multiple body areas.
Contraindications for CoolSculpting Treatments
The only contraindication for undergoing CoolSculpting treatment is if you have a rare condition of cold-intolerance.
