Fraxel is a noninvasive and FDA-approved laser resurfacing treatment that restores aging and damaged skin affected by age spots, fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, stretch marks, surgical and acne scars, irregular skin texture and discoloration, and even oversized pores. As a pinpoint laser treatment, it reduces dead skin cells in thousands of locations beneath the skin’s surface.
By stimulating the natural healing process, Fraxel treatments restore damaged skin, giving it a natural glow and healthy texture while improving the overall quality. A primary benefit of this procedure is that by using fractional photothermolysis, only a small area of skin gets targeted at a time, leaving the surrounding tissue unharmed. Because Fraxel treats only targeted areas, the results are both focused and effective.
Our Fraxel treatment is ideal for both men and women who want healthier and more youthful-appearing skin. However, this procedure might not be suitable for all skin types and colors. The ideal candidate for this laser resurfacing procedure is someone with excellent soft tissue support and without an excessive amount of sagging skin.
We do not recommend this procedure for people with an active infection, sunburn, or dermatitis in the treatment area. Also, anyone with a history of slow or poor healing or light-induced seizures, taking anticoagulant or light-sensitizing medications, or who has taken Roaccutane or Accutane within the past six months does not make a good candidate. Other considerations include pregnancy, chemotherapy, existing vitiligo and eczema, severe rosacea, and a history of Keloid scarring.
Before undergoing a Fraxel treatment, you will have a consultation with one of our medical experts to determine whether you are a good candidate.
A Fraxel treatment works below the skin’s surface, addressing a variety of imperfections. Fractional photothermolysis stimulates the growth of natural collagen and rejuvenates skin cells, thereby smoothing out lines and wrinkles while reducing the appearance of age spots and scars. The treatment is mild and usually lasts no more than 20 to 40 minutes. Often, there is some improvement within a few days following the first procedure, although the full results take about six months and several sessions.
Expected side effects for the first three days following the first procedure include redness, the sensation of having a sunburn, minor swelling, oozing, and slight crusting. However, the aggressiveness of the treatment a patient adheres to the recommended post-procedure care determine the severity and longevity of the side effects.
Although most people return to regular activity after having a Fraxel procedure, for more aggressive treatments, downtime can last between three and five days. Regardless of the intensity of the treatment, we recommend avoiding any strenuous activities for roughly two to four weeks. After healing, we suggest additional Fraxel sessions to achieve optimal results.
