Since coming on the aesthetics scene, Botox® has increased exponentially in popularity.  As its application has been refined and tweaked, more and more people are turning to Botox® for a more youthful face.

The numbers bear this claim up.  The popularity of Botox® continues to grow.  In fact, since the year 2000, its use has increased by more than 700%.

That’s a staggering statistic, when you consider that in 2016, almost 7 million Botox® procedures were done.

So, what’s the deal with Botox®?  Let’s take a closer look.

A perkier you.

One of the chief benefits of this injectable is the fact that it perks up your looks.  That’s especially true when it comes to the brow region of your face.

Botox® can lift your eyebrows, giving the eyes a fresher, more awake appearance. Because this injectable reduces the movement of facial muscles, fine lines are much less likely to appear when used regularly.

Botox® as a preventative measure.

When used strategically, Botox® can prevent those fine lines we were just discussing from appearing in the first place.  Because your facial muscles have less range of motion, wrinkling is prevented, imparting a more youthful appearance.

Dynamic wrinkles, like those which form when you smile or frown, are stopped in their tracks with the use of this highly effective preventative measure.  That’s why some of our guests at Ethos Spa start using Botox® in their mid-to-late 20s.

Completely safe and minimally-invasive.

Botox® has become a leading alternative to invasive procedures because it’s so effective.  This minimally invasive therapy has a lifting effect which is sustained for as long as 3 months following your session.

The only proviso concerning the use of Botox® is for women who may be pregnant or are nursing.  A consultation with your primary care doctor should always precede starting a course of Botox® injections.

Accessible, financially.

One of the most attractive benefits of Botox® is the fact that it’s financially accessible for almost everyone.  While price per unit may vary and while some may desire more units of the injectable per session, it’s comparatively inexpensive against other anti-aging treatments.

It’s not permanent.

Some people may try Botox® and decide it’s not the right injectable for achieving their desired effect.  That’s not a problem, because it’s not permanent.

Botox® treatments may be required twice or more per year to maintain results, so if you’re not happy with the therapy, you don’t continue.

Injectables are not only a popular way to diminish the visible signs of aging, they’re able to help you prevent them.  That’s a very enticing proposition in an age of 24/7 media, replete with images of the seamless faces of celebrities.

While we believe injectables are a highly valuable aesthetic strategy against aging, we also understand that those under the age of 20 should probably wait before getting started.  Very young people have a tendency to jump on trends and while that’s to be expected, starting injectables at a very young age is a little overzealous.

Everyone ages somewhat differently.  Factors like skin type, genetics, stress and the environment you live in can all contribute to the quality of your skin.  So, it’s safe to say there’s no lucky number when it comes to injectables.

The Zen of injectables.

You take your car in at intervals to have it serviced and checked for any mechanical problems.  You don’t wait until you turn the key in the ignition and it doesn’t start.  You manage the resource.  The same is true of your face.

Taking care of yourself to ensure that you put your best face forward is a proactive strategy.  Those of you who are considering injectables are probably already practicing all the face-saving behaviors of image-conscious people.

Drinking enough water, getting enough sleep, exercise and targeted vitamin supplements are all part of your regime.  Keep doing that.

But sometimes, you need a little extra support.  Here’s what to be conscious of when you’re contemplating injectables like Juvederm, or Botox.

The notorious “11”.

Because we all look at ourselves in the mirror every day, the image is familiar.  Small signs of aging may go unnoticed.

A good rule of thumb is to look at your face while it’s in a neutral position.  Are you seeing “11” lines between your eyes (caused by frowning)?  If you’re not happy with that, you may want to consider an injectable to address it.

But you can also prevent the notorious “11” from forming.  Our guests tend to start coming to us in their mid-20s to stop things like frown lines setting in.  Because Botox, for example, limits the range of motion of facial muscles, you can nip the phenomenon in the bud with a preventative injectables strategy.

Filling in lines.

Our skin (generally, but mileage may vary) starts losing elasticity in our mid to late 20s.  In terms of dermal fillers, this is a good time to start using them.  By starting at the age when general changes begin to occur, you’re taking a proactive step, which means less product is demanded than if you were to wait until your 40s or 50s to start.

Aging gracefully is part of what injectables can do for you.  By maintaining a fresher appearance over time, the aging process becomes less jarring.  Many of our guests choose this anti-aging strategy for that very reason.

You’re no doubt here because you know that winter is the best possible time to start laser hair removal.  You’re thinking about it and wondering if you’re a perfect candidate for laser hair removal.

That’s smart on your part.  Laser hair removal does, in fact, have perfect candidates.  But with changes in technology, it’s much more accessible for people with a variety of hair and skin types.

So, let’s talk about laser hair removal and whether it’s the right choice for you.

Pigmentation is key.

Pigmentation is an important factor in successful laser hair removal.  Pale skin combined with pale hair, for that reason and dark hair combined with dark skin, are challenges.

That’s because if there’s not enough contrast between the two, the laser has difficulty distinguishing between the hair and the skin.

But that’s not an insurmountable obstacle in today’s world of advanced laser hair removal.  Next generation tools are now specifically designed to get around this, making the therapy much more accessible for a wider range of hair/skin combinations.

Varying laser intensity is the solution to overcoming the difficulties associated with both extremes of pigmentation, which is good news for those looking to become effortlessly smooth for swimsuit season.

Get rid of hair – everywhere.

Laser hair removal can be used on just about any part of the body. That said, everyone’s different in terms of sensitivity.

Some parts of the body are more sensitive than others, because they’re always covered up, making them tender.  Those areas which are more frequently exposed to the elements, of course, are easier to treat, offering fewer challenges for technicians.

You’re ready to save on hair removal.

Some people dismiss laser hair removal out of hand, because they’ve been convinced it’s prohibitively costly.  But think about.

You regularly buy hair removal products like waxes, depilatory creams, sugaring and shavers.  Wouldn’t it be nice to get the hair removed and not have to think about so often?  Imagine coasting through the spring and summer, unconcerned about whether you’re stubbly?

Kissing those daily stubble checks goodbye is certainly worth the price of admission!

You’re realistic.

Because you’re a research-based consumer, you know that laser hair removal is a process.  Your hair is not magically zapped off in one session.

You also know that everyone responds to the therapy a little differently, so you’re prepared for the eventuality that your hair may present more of a challenge than someone else’s.

Now, you know about Ethos!

Whether you’re the type of person who faithfully makes New Year’s resolutions each year or not, the start of a new year can spur you to make some key changes in the way you approach your presentation.

You may have been doing things the same way for many years, saying, “Why fix it, if it’s not broken?”.  Tried and true has its place, but change is refreshing and can provide a much-needed boost of optimism to start the year off right.

So, without further ado, here are our tips to revitalize your beauty routine for the new year!

About that hair.

We all know someone who’s had the same hairdo since college, refusing to change it.  They have their hair routine down to an art and are reluctant to change anything about it.

But change is good and a new cut and/or color can completely shift your self-perception.  Since when has seeing a new you ever been a negative?  Consider taking the bull by the horns, by trying something contemporary and fresh.

Just say “no” to contouring.

Contouring makeup tutorials are all over the internet right now, rendering intricate solutions which are almost scientific in their formulation.  They’re time-intensive and “heavy”.

But, seriously.  That’s a lot of makeup and a lot of makeup, heavily applied, isn’t what your skin needs.  Want a more contoured look? Consider taking up a program of exercise and increased water intake.  You’ll get a similar effect which is naturally-derived.  Bonus:  you’ll be healthier and look and feel fantastic!

Inside out skincare.

Skin care isn’t just from the outside in.  You can change the quality of your skin from the inside out, too.  Once again, sufficient intake of water is crucial.  But what you eat can also affect your skin’s quality.

Foods rich in healthy fats are part of a diet that will make your skin glow.  Choose nuts with a high fat content (in sensible amounts) and avocados.  Both these are excellent skin supports, but there are so many foods out there to support healthy, radiant skin.

Supplement your diet with skin-specific vitamins like C, D, E and K and glow on with your bad self.

Ditch the foundation.

Foundation has a distinct tendency to work against your beauty.  It’s difficult to match the color of your skin, for one.  For another, many apply foundation as a sort of mask to conceal perceived flaws.

A tinted moisturizer (or “BB cream”) is an excellent alternative.  Most of these contain skin brightening ingredients which impart a fresh, vital, natural look.  So much better than wearing a mask!
