Do you have unwanted fat on your body that you just cannot get rid of through diet and exercise? Hard to remove fat is usually found in the belly and thigh region. Diet and exercise can not always get rid of these pockets due to stretched skin. There are many different surgical and non surgical treatments available to help. Today we will compare two popular treatments, CoolSculpting and liposuction.

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical treatment used to remove pockets of fat in the body.  Small incisions allow access to a fatty bulge. The surgeon first puts IV fluid into the area to loosen the fat and to encourage smoother contours. Local anesthetic can be added to numb the area.

After enough fluid is injected, the surgeon inserts a cannula and turns on the suction. Small, round, yellow lobules travel down the plastic tubing from the body into a plastic canister. The surgeon tailors and sculpts by moving the cannula throughout the fatty bulge from different incision sites. Progress is monitored by looking, feeling, pinching, and measuring the amount of fat removed. Liposuction is the most  popular cosmetic procedure in America.

What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a noninvasive fat –reduction technology that received FDA approval in 2010. Its fat freezing (“cryolypolysis”) treatments have taken off in the US. Freezing fat was the brainchild of two Harvard dermatologists. Intrigued by a report of teething toddlers who had developed cheek dimples after sucking on pain-relieving popsicles, the doctors investigated. Their research confirmed that selective freezing of adipose (fat) cells reduced fatty bulges by 20 to 25%. Patients typically need 1-3 treatments on the same area to get noticeable results. Those findings led to CoolSculpting.

The practitioner makes marks on the area to be treated for precise placement of the device. Then a transparent gel pad is placed to protect the skin, and the applicator head is put into position. Now it’s time to turn on the vacuum. Once the bulge is sucked into a cup, two cooling panels numb the area. The controlled cooling freezes the fat cells without harming the skin, muscle, or nerves. After an hour, the practitioner removes the application cup and massages the frozen mound to break up even more fat cells.

“Laughter is the best medicine.”  A phrase we have heard our whole lives. It relieves stress and has been proven to boost your immune system and keep your body and mind healthy. Laughter also leaves wrinkles in our face around the mouth. The good news? You can keep laughing because Bellafill dermal filler can fill in the laugh lines in your face and keep the wrinkles away.

Bellafill is the only FDA approved dermal filler to last up to five years. It is a polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) collagen  that immediately adds volume to the skin to lift wrinkles known as smile lines.  The PMMA microspheres help your own bodies collagen production to create lasting improvements.  This is possible because of the PMMA microspheres. The PMMA creates a matrix under the skin to support your own collagen production.

Bellafill has also been proven to correct long term acne scars. The filler is injected under the acne scar immediately lifting the skin and correcting the scar. It is a smooth, collagen-based filler with PMMA microspheres. The PMMA re-creates the firm structure of smoother-looking skin by supporting production of your body’s own collagen. The best results are filling rolling, or wide acne scars. We can help identify your acne scars in our office at your complimentary consultation.

Bellafill is an in-office treatment with little to no downtime. You can immediately resume your normal daily activities after treatment. Contact us today to schedule your appointment and see your results immediately.

Facial rejuvenation is described as “a cosmetic treatment (or series of cosmetic treatments), which aims to restore a youthful appearance to the human face.” The surgical options for restoring a youthful appearance include a brow lift, eye lift, facelift and neck lift. Surgery is expensive, painful and requires downtime. Non surgical options vary by the result the patient is looking for and can include chemical peels, Botox, dermal fillers and laser resurfacing.

In the past, patients seemed focused on the jawline to gain a youthful appearance. Dr. Soni  has noticed more patients are now focused on the mid face region instead. A youthful mid face is described as having high, strong cheekbones that transition well with the lower eyelids.  Juvederm is  the most used dermal filler to fill sagging cheeks and lift the face gaining a younger appearance. We call this the “liquid facelift”.  A skilled practioner can address all 3 areas of the face that need to be filled and can create volume in the mid face region that looks natural and not plastic.

Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid (HA) soft tissue filler that gained FDA approval in 2013; however, it has been available in Europe since 2005. Ethos Spa recommends Juvederm Voluma for the non surgical facial rejuvenation procedure. Patients can expect a youthful appearance with no downtime. Results vary by patient but can be expected to last nine to twelve months.

The average man will spend 3,000 hrs shaving in a lifetime. That is 125 days or almost 18 weeks of his life. How would you like to cut down on that time shaving?

The latest trend in men’s grooming is facial laser hair removal. Male facial laser hair removal can be performed in many different areas of the face. Some men want to lose all of the hair on their face while others like to target specific areas such as the cheeks or back of the neck. We can customize a plan for whatever you choose.

How Does Facial Laser Hair Removal Work?

Laser hair removal is an effective treatment to remove unwanted hair on the body. The laser beams light into the hair follicle which destroys the hair. Ethos Spa uses different lasers for patients with different hair color and skin colors. The YAG laser is used for patients with ethnic, tanned or darker skin tones. Once the hair is destroyed in the follicle, new growth is usually not seen again. In rare cases, new hair growth could start in the follicle, but it would more than likely take years.

How Should I Prepare For Treatment?

For best results, it is best to not tweeze or pluck the hair to be treated for six weeks before treatment. Plucking and tweezing remove the hair from the root. Shaving is OK, but it is best to have some hair on the area to be treated when coming in for the appointment. The Dr. or nurse will be able to see the hair and have a better chance of removing exactly what you want. It is also best to limit time in the sun before and during treatment.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

Depending on the area of the hair to be removed and skin tones, we recommend one treatment per month until  the whole area has been treated. Hair growth is done in cycles and we want to be sure we treat the area in cycles to reduce as much as possible.
