Botox is a cosmetic treatment that has traditionally been used to treat aging men & women. But did you know that younger men and women are now starting to use Botox at an earlier age to slow down the aging process? There are some differences in treatment for men and women. As seen in this botox infographic, men typically need more in the glabella (the area between your eyes) than women. Men need about 30-40 units while women only need 20-30 units on average. Women usually need less in the forehead region and both are about the same when it comes to the frown lines.

Kim Zolciak,, reality star from Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” and “Don’t be Tardy” recently took a turn on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars”, and garnered headlines when she told her Instagram followers that she had received a Botox treatment before appearing on the show.

However, she claims that her botox treatments are not just about vanity. Zolciak finds that her Botox treatments really help with her migraines. “On a more serious note, it does help with my migraines. I’ve got it since I was 23 and so I’m at the 90 day mark—if I go past that, I end up in the bed with the migraines. I have to hurry up and get it but it works.”

Botox has been FDA approved as a treatment for migraines since 2010. To treat chronic migraines, expect to receive treatments every 12 weeks or so. In each treatment you may receive up to 31 injections in specific locations around the head and neck to help alleviate the pain and nausea that’s sometimes associated with migraines.

Zolciak continued to espouse the virtues of Botox, beyond the migraines as well. “I’m all for making yourself feel good. If you want to do it to feel good about yourself, do it. Why lie?  Why hide? We only go around one time so enjoy it.”

There are numerous different types of acne scars, and each will have a different effect on your appearance.

Ice Pick Acne Scars

Ice pick acne are among the most common type, and are identified by the thin, narrow depressions formed in the skin.

Rolling Acne Scars

Rolling scars tend to look like waves across the skin, due to their wide indentations and shallow depth.

Boxcar Acne Scars

Boxcar scars are similar in appearance to chicken pos scars, creating squarish indentations in the skin with very defined edges. They are most often located on the temples or cheeks.

Hypertonic Acne Scars

Hypertonic scars create a raised area, or bump on the skin, generally contained within the area of the original wound. Unlike most scars, the appearance of hypertonic acne scars may lessen over time.

Keloid Acne Scars

Keloid scars also create high spots on the skin, but the area is not contained within the area of the original wound. Keloid scars can be hard rubbery, and appear larger than the original blemish.

Dermal Fillers as Treatment for Acne Scarring

Most acnescarring responds well to dermal fillers as treatment to reduce the appearance. Using Restylane or Juvederm can help restore lost volume to these areas and improve the overall look and feel of your skin, which can have poiive effects on your confidence and self-estem as well.

For Fitness Fanatics, the Blowtox Can Be a Lifesaver

If you’re a regular in the gym, you know that a heavy duty sweat session can do a number on your  hair. Whether you’re a yoga enthusiast, or heavy into spin class, sweating along the scalp and through your hair can ruin that expensive salon style.

Introducing the “Blowtox”. Botox treatments along the scalp reduce the sweating along the hairline that occurs during workouts. This extend the life of your expensive salon blowout, and removes one more excuse for skipping your trip to the gym.

The Blowtox treatment requires over 100 injections along the scalp, as opposed to a standard forehead wrinkle treatment, that may take less than a dozen injections. However, because the scalp contains relatively few nerve endings, and the needle used in the procedure is thinner than a human hair, the procedure is virtually painless.

Shape magazine reports the procedure has become particularly popular with women who do spin or hot yoga classes. By dramatically reducing the sweat that breaks down their blowouts, women have been able to squeeze in mid-day workouts without compromising their professional look

Have you heard of the “Vampire Face Lift” and wondered if the procedure would make you look ageless? We are here to explain this treatment that is being used instead of fillers and most recently for hair replacement. Using platelet rich plasma(PRP) from a patient’s own blood, the Dr. uses a process to activate blood growth factors which can then stimulate stem cells lying dormant in the skin and subcutaneous tissue. This is injected into the area that you want to revitalize and rejuvenate. There is little to no downtime following the procedure because the patient is injected with their own blood. Ethos Spa prefers using dermal fillers, but this treatment is also an option for some patients to explore.

Vampire FaceLift discussed on The Doctors from Vampire Procedures on Vimeo.

PRP injections have also been used to treat hair growth. This is a treatment that can be used in conjunction with other hair restoration treatments. The patient’s blood is extracted, separated in a centrifuge and injected into the scalp. The PRP stimulates the hair follicles to re-grow hair.

As with any medical procedure, check out the Dr. who is performing the treatment and ask lots of questions including how many times they have performed the specific procedure.

While women have known the convenience and benefits of laser hair removal for some time now, it’s still a fairly new procedure for most men. If you’ve been thinking of making the choice to consider permanent laser hair removal, there’s some things you should know.

Laser Hair Removal is Permanent

Trends come and go… what may be popular today may be out of style in the future. So, it’s important to realize that the decision for laser hair removal is permanent. The laser light kills the root of the hair, making it very difficult to grow back (but not impossible). You may need occasional “touch-ups” in certain areas to maintain your sleek new look, but for the most part, the hair you have successfully removed will not return.

Think Outside the Torso

Typically, the most common areas of laser hair removal for men have been the back, shoulders and chest. However, treatment may also be appropriate for the arms, the stomach and even the genital region.

Laser Hair Removal May Not Be for You

As much as we’d like, laser hair removal is not ideal for all men. It tends to be most effective on lighter skin with darker hair. It’s important to review your specific situation with our medically trained professionals to consult you toward the treatment that will best serve your needs and help you reach your cosmetic and styling objectives. Our FREE consultation will review your options, and inform you of any potential risks or side effects you need to be aware of.

In Conclusion

More and more often, men are taking advantage of the “manscaping” trend, and laser hair removal for men is an increasingly popular option. Contact us today to find out if it mght be right for you.

Botox is a cosmetic treatment used by both men and women to erase those fine lines and wrinkles that age us in our face. But did you know that men and women need different amounts per area? Typically women need less in the glabella or the area in between your eyes than men. Men need 30-40 units while women only need 20-30 units on average. Men also need more in the forehead area than women and both are about the same when it comes to the frown lines.

Why do men need more Botox than women? One of the main reasons is that men have a larger muscle mass in the forehead area than women do. It takes more units to treat the same area as in a woman’s face. Botox treatments for men have increased in the last 5 years as more men are wanting the same results as women.
