Botox – the common name for use of botulinum toxin for cosmetic purposes can have a number of benefits for your appearance and well-being, and not just for removing lines and wrinkles from your forehead.

Botox has been FDA approved for other treatments you may not have considered before.

The Botox Procedure

A Botox treatment is a fairly simple procedure. Typically a customer should avoid alcohol for a week before the procedure, and discontinue aspirin and anti-inflammatory medicines for at least 2 weeks before treatment. A small injection is made in the muscle which temporarily inhibits sending signals from the nerves to the muscle contract, thereby eliminating lines and wrinkles. A treatment takes only minutes and requires no anesthesia. Botox is administered with a fine needle directly into selected muscles, typically with only minor discomfort. Full results are usually visible in 3 to 7 days

3 Benefits of Botox

  1. Reducing the effect of migraine headaches: Migraines are more than just a headache, and usually are accompanied by a number of symptoms that can be really unpleasant. Persistent dizziness, nausea and vomiting can make it hard to maintain regular activity. Botox treatment, typically injected in 7 areas around the temples, forehead, neck and shoulders has been proven to lessen or eliminate these effects in many migraine sufferers.
  2. Excessive Underarm Sweat: Another of the FDA approved benefits of Botox is to reduce hyperhidrosis, also known as severe underarm sweating. Botox is injected just under the skin with an ultra-fine needle, directly to the sweat glands. Botox will not cure the condition, just alleviate the symptoms of up to 7 months. Your insurance may cover this procedure (check with your carrier)
  3. An Eyebrow lift: In addition to removing fine lines and wrinkles, a Botox treatment can improve the appearance of your eyebrows, helping lift a sagging arch and eliminating lines around the brows that reduce the quality of their appearance.

A Chemical Peel May Reduce the Effects of a Lifetime of Acne

Chemical peels are acids that when applied to the skin exfoliate the top layers and stimulate the growth of new skin underneath. This creation of new skin and the exfoliation of the old can resurface the skin, reducing some forms of active acne, and dramatically diminishing the presence of acne scarring.

In addition to the reduced appearance of acne and acne scars, a chemical peel has many other benefits for evening out your skin tone and helping to create the fresh, clean, youthful appearance you’re searching for.

Chemical peels reduce the effects of sun damage, eliminate fine lines and wrinkles, reduces age spots and freckles

A mild chemical peel procedure can be performed every 4-6 weeks, while a more aggressive treatment should be reserved for once every 6 to 12 months. Depending on the level of the peel, you may experience redness, swelling and some cracking and peeling of the skin, as the new skin emerges.

After a chemical peel, your skin will be hypersensitive to the sun. Be sure to use a wide spectrum sunscren on the treated areas every day.

SkinPen stimulates your skin’s natural ability to repair itself, creating new collagen and elastin that diminishes or eliinates the appearance of lines and wrinkles, as well as stretch marks, acne scars and more!

SkinPen is minimally invasive, using a “microneedling” technique to create tiny channels in the outer layers of your skin that create the opportunity for new skin to rise in it’s place with little to no downtime.  Your skin will look and feel healthier almost immediately.

The Science Behind the Magic

Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), also known as microneedling, is the science on which SkinPen is based. Teh process works in three general phases:

Phase 1- Inflammation: By Piercing the skin, the body sends healing factors to clear the “micro-injuries” and begin the production of fresh, new younger looking skin.

Phase 2 – Proliferation: Healthy skin around the edges of the channels proliferates to “fill the gaps”. Your epidermal cells multiply, generating new collagen and elastin.

Phase 3 – Remodeling: once the “wounds” are closed the new dermal layers and elastin and other growth factors tighten, creating a shrink-wrap effect that tightens and tones the appearnace of the new skin layers.

Full recovery is typically 2-4 days, depending on the depth of the channels created, and the recovery is similar to the effects of a mild sunburn. During that time, you may have varying degrees of redness and minimal swelling.

As always, our highly trained staff will consult with you on your treatment options and help determine the best course of action to help you get the results you desire.

Have you taken the Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge?  We certainly hope not.  Although these internet challenges can seem fun, this particular one carries significant risk of injury.

Note: The Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge is not endorsed by the reality star. in fact, MS. Jenner has admitted to having temporary lip fillers to achieve her signature look.

The Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge Explained

The idea of the challenge is that in an effort to replicate the starlet’s signature pouty lips, people have put a shot glass or small cup to their mouth and sucked out the air, creating a vacuum. In absence of air inside the glass, the thin skin of your lips swells to fill the void, potentially leaving you with a thicker fuller lip appearance.

Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge failThe Hazards of the Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge

  1. Broken glass! In creating this vacuum, you exert tremendous force on the glass, whic for some has resulted in serious injury, glass shards on your lips, face, eyes and even in your mouth and throat can cause serious damage,; resulting in  a trip to the emergency room.
  2. Damage to your teeth. If the glass doesn’t break, another potential victim is your teeth. A weak tooth or dental work can be adversely affected. Chipped or broken teeth are a painful and expensive lesson to learn from this issue.
  3. Damage to your blood vessels around the lips and mouth. the pressure of the glass against the sensitive skin of your lips, mouth and jaw can cause a hematoma, This is a blod clotting situation that can cause beads or knots of blood to surface, creating a permanent “ring” around your mouth where the glass was, and leaving your lips distorted.

SkinPen can be used all over the body, including arms, legs, torso and back, which makes it ideal for managing acne scars and stretch marks.

SkinPen treatments create hundreds of vertical channels in the outermost skin, stimulating the production of new collagen. So, while this “microneedling” procedure is minimally invasive, many patients report little to no discomfort during the procedure. After the procedure, you may experience some redness and light swelling, similar to a mild sunburn, that usually dissipates in 3-5 days.
