Kybella

Kybella is FDA approved injection that works by the principle of dissolving fat cells in the area below the chin or so-called submental fat. This is one of the options for noninvasive reduction of a double chin. Kybella is rather safe to use since it is formulated as deoxycholic acid, which is naturally occurring in the human body. The number of treatments depends on the desired results as well as on how much fat is present in the area. At Ethos Spa, Skin and Laser Center I use 2-3 vials per treatment and in average my patients come back for 2 or 3 treatments. One Kybella treatment does not take longer than 15 minutes. Treatments are usually done every 4-8 weeks.

There are minor side effects associated with Kybella if it is injected properly. Some of the most common side effects are swelling, bruising, feeling of numbness, formation of lumps around the injections area. All of these symptoms are short-lived and go away within few weeks. The longest lasting symptoms are those lumps that may stay up to 2 months. If Kybella is not injected properly, then there is the risk of nerve damage and damage to the skin cells. If injected too close to nerves it can cause temporary paralysis and crooked smile. This usually resolves itself within few weeks to up to 2 months. On the other hand, if not used accordingly Kybella can destroy skin cells, which is more serious condition and would require additional treatments.

 Coolsculpting Mini

Coolsculpting Mini is FDA approved treatment for fat reduction. It is called Mini because it has small size applicator that allows this treatment to be done on the neck and under chin area. What is so great about coolsculpting iis that it is a noninvasive procedure. It works by the principle of fat reduction by freezing fat cells.

The process of freezing fat cells and their reduction originates from two Harvard dermatologists. Combining suction and freezing, they came to the conclusion that sucked fat freezes and it gets reduced at least by 25%. After few treatments, the fat is noticeably reduced. Surgeon marks the area that is going to be treated, places transparent gel pad, and put applicator on the area. When suction is turned on, it sucks the excess fat and two cooling panels numb the area. The procedure lasts about one hour. The results of Coolsculpting usually start being visible within a few weeks for up to few months. The average time for patients to see first results is three weeks, while for some patients it may take up to eight weeks. The most dramatic results are noticeable after approximately eight weeks.

After the procedure typical side effects experienced by patients are redness, swelling, itching, or skin irritation. These effects are temporary and usually resolve within few days. With some people, redness lasts longer, but this is usually connected to skin sensitivity.
