Cost of BOTOX® Cosmetic Treatment
BOTOX® is typically priced per unit or per area. If you are paying per area, it is important to ask how many units the injector is placing. BOTOX® can cost anywhere from $10 to $25 per unit depending on the experience of the injector, as well as the location on the body. We are happy to discuss BOTOX® cost during your consultation at one of our two New Jersey spas.
Be wary of pricing that seems too low as the preparation may be dilute. Also, the consumer needs to be wary of non health care professionals performing the injections. If there is any doubt, ask to see the bottle as well as the box of the BOTOX®. It is important to be comfortable with the injector; and at Ethos Spa, all of our skin care professionals are well-educated, certified, and extremely experienced in administering BOTOX® Cosmetic injections.
The BOTOX® Cosmetic Treatment Procedure
BOTOX® injections typically require no more than 5 to 10 minutes depending on the areas being treated. During the procedure:
- We will discuss your medical history to determine if you are a candidate.
- You will sign a consent advising you of the potential side effects of BOTOX® injection.
- Pictures will be taken with you showing no expression to document any pre-existing asymmetry.
- Pictures will be taken with you showing expression to assess the severity of the treatment lines.
- The treatment area is cleansed and prepped with alcohol. We may also apply ice packs before and after the procedure to limit bruising.
- A very fine needle will be used to inject minute amounts of BOTOX® into the proposed site. There will be minimal discomfort and bleeding may also occur.
- After the injections, the site of BOTOX® administration will be cleansed again with alcohol.
BOTOX® Cosmetic Treatment Results
Everyone’s case is different, but results generally become apparent within 7 to 10 days. Some clients report muscle relaxation occurring as early as 3 to 5 days. We will ask to see you in approximately one week after treatment to determine if you need more injections to achieve desired results.
The current trend is to achieve just partial muscle relaxation, where there is still some movement left. Clients may prefer this, as it can potentially give more natural results. However, other people may prefer complete muscle relaxation, in which additional units of BOTOX® are needed.
How Long BOTOX® Results Last
Individual results may vary, but BOTOX® can last from 3 to 5 months. Initial administration of BOTOX® typically results in a lower duration period. After 3 to 5 months, you will notice your lines gradually return over 1 to 2 weeks. Your wrinkles will be no worse than before the BOTOX® cosmetic treatment. Also, clients are reporting increased duration of effects with continued injections. Therefore, BOTOX® can be used as a measure to keep the deeper lines from forming.
Alternatives to BOTOX® Cosmetic®
There are other types of Botulinum toxin besides BOTOX®, the latest of which to receive FDA approval is Dysport. Other formulations have been used in Europe but have yet to receive FDA approval in the United States. There are creams on the market which tout the same results as BOTOX®, however, be wary, as claims have not been substantiated.
