Bellafill is a dermal filler for permanent implantation into the skin for the correction of nasolabial folds, or smile lines. It has been approved by the FDA and can be used in both women and men. Unlike other dermal fillers that are absorbed and need reinjection, Bellafill is non-resorbable dermal filler. The product is also approved for the correction of moderate to severe facial acne scars on the cheeks in patients above the age of 21 years.

What are the Side Effects to consider?

It is recommended to postpone the use of Bellafill on areas with skin pores, pimples, rashes, hives, cysts, or infections until the healing is completed. The use of Bellafill during these instances could delay healing or create skin problems.

Bellafill should not be implanted into blood vessels as it may cause vascular occlusion, infarction or emboli.

If you have any medical condition that affects your blood or you are taking medical drugs such as aspirin or anti-inflammatory drugs, you can experience extreme bruising and bleeding at the injection sites.

It is very important to inform your doctor if you have had any dermal filler treatments in the last 6 month and if you are currently on immunosuppressive therapy (medication commonly prescribed for those who have had an organ transplant, or rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, inflammatory bowel disease, cancer, etc.)

How does Bellafill work?

This dermal filler is injected into the skin with an ultrafine needle. It plumps the skin in order to smooth away wrinkles and folds. The composition is of non-absorbable microsphere collagen which acts to provide support for a longer-lasting wrinkle improvement. The results can be mostly seen within one or two treatments. However, allergy pre-testing is necessary and the results are not temporary and surgical removal of the collagen is required for reversal of effects.
