Sometimes the smallest things can make the biggest difference. For TV star Kelly Ripa, the answer was Botox.

Kelly told Andy Cohen on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live” that “Botox changed my life. It cut my getting ready time in half.” Kelly goes on to say that her key to not having that permanently surprised look is moderation. It’s important to know what you look like and not to overdo Botox or other fillers.

That’s great advice from the star of hit morning show, “Live! with Kelly and Michael” More isn’t always better. Most of us have heard of or know someone who has had Botox. But, are you familiar with Dysport? We are here to explain the differences of these three FDA approved botulinum toxins.

Botox(manufactured by Allergan) is made of botulinum toxin A. Botox was approved by the FDA in 2002. It is a protein, prepared from the bacteria called Clostridium Botulinum, which inhibits muscle activity by blocking transmission from the nerve to the muscle. This cosmetic procedure is FDA approved and can erase fine lines and wrinkles in your face. The treatments take about 10 minutes and are minimally invasive.

Dysport(manufactured by Medicis) is also comprised of botulinum toxin A. Dysport was approved in the US in 2009. The Dysport protein is smaller so it is reported to work a little faster than Botox. It also claims to give a more natural look to your face. Dysport targets the forehead and erases frown lines. It is injected into 5 points above your eyebrows and forehead. It lasts about 4-6 months.

Whether you are just starting your research, or are ready to erase those wrinkles, give us a call to schedule a complimentary consultation and we can answer all of your questions about which treatment is best for you.

Do you have a problem with razor bumps or ingrown hair? These are common side effects of shaving with a razor or tweezing. Razor bumps can be caused from genetic factors, curved hair follicles or from shaving and tweezing. The bumps occur when the hair is cut and gets a sharp tip that reenters the skin away from the hair tip or when the hair shaft is broken at uneven lengths which then causes it to poke the skin at different points during re-growth. The signs of razor bumps are dark or red colored bumps on the area of the skin that has been shaved or tweezed. Other signs include seeing bumps containing pus in the inflamed area. This can be embarrassing to men when it occurs on their face and for women when it occurs in the underarms or bikini line.

Laser hair removal may be your answer to getting rid of these problems for good! Laser hair removal is the only process which targets the pigment in the hair follicle while leaving the skin intact – therefore no razor bumps or chance for ingrown hairs. The first treatments with the laser will remove 10%-20% of the hair and will continue to thin the remaining hair. The number of treatments needed to remove the unwanted hair are different depending on your skin type, but usually 6-8 treatments are needed to complete the process.

Call us today to schedule your complimentary consultation and say “Goodbye” to razor burn forever!

While procedures like laser hair removal are minimally invasive and have a very high success rate, it doesn’t mean they are without risk. At the end of the day, you’re still having laser applied to your skin, with the sole purpose of damaging those hair follicles so they no longer produce new hair. When done properly, the effects can be dramatic, and last anywhere from 6 months to multiple years.

However, when performed improperly, laser hair removal still carries serious potential risks. While the more common complications from include skin irritation or a lightening or darkening of the skin’s pigment. Less frequently, there may be blistering, crusting or other changes in skin texture.A laser operator who is not medically trained may also make incorrect judgments about skin abnormalities. If skin cancer is treated as a sunspot, it may obscure the disease until the effects are much more advanced.

Who You Choose to Perform Your Laser Hair Removal Procedure Matters

In 2011, 78% of the lawsuits involving laser hair removal procedures included a non-medical practitioner. Your practitioner matters! At Ethos Spa, Skin and Laser Center, all our practitioners are medically trained. The laser operator has to make any number of assessments of the patient’s skin, and how best to handle treatment.

In the end, it’s vitally important to consider that it’s not just the technology that matters, it’s the operator and the support staff that are really doing the work. Do your due diligence when considering laser hair treatment specialist. Talk openly and honestly with our staff during your free pre-procedure consultation. Review testimonials from many of our satisfied customers, and don’t take unnecessary risks with your skin health.

Many patients see fantastic results after their Botox Cosmetic injections. The relaxed muscles create a smoother skin, diminishing lines and wrinkles around the site of injection.

But what happens when Botox wears off? After six to nine months you’ll start to see lines and wrinkles reappear. There’s a myth that repeated use of Botox can actually make wrinkles worse, but that is not the case! Typically the patient has become used to the smoother, younger looking appearance that they’ve had, so as the wrinkles reappear slowly, they only think they are worse.

Why Do Wrinkles Reappear?

Botox works by paralyzing the nerve endings that attach to the muscles, causing the muscle to enter a prolonged relaxed state. Over time, new nerve endings are formed that were unaffected by Botox. When these new nerve endings reattach to the muscle, the muscle will be able to contract again, causing fine lines and wrinkles.

What happens to the toxins?

While large doses of Botulinum toxin are highly toxic, the dosage used during a Botox Cosmetic procedure is so small as to not to be dangerous. In fact, over the years, Botox has been found to be very well tolerated by the body.

In fact, Botox has other medical uses, where the dosage is orders of magnitude larger than those acceptable for cosmetic procedure. Even then, the body has proven well suited to tolerate it. However, it’s important to make sure your provider is a licensed experienced, medical professional, and that they are using “real” Botox Cosmetic, which is regulated and monitored. Don’t take a chance with unregulated “knock-offs”, especially when dealing with something injectable into your skin!

Visit Ethos Spa, Skin and Laser Center for your FREE Botox Consultation. We’ll ensure you have every opportunity to discuss the details of what you can expect when Botox wears off.
